Karen will be remembered because she leavrs behind very happy memories for so many people. With her lovely smile she always seemed to be full of life, happy and optimistic, even when she was experiencing what must have been some of her darkest adys. She was certainly brave. Those of us in her family appreciate te happiness brought to her by David and his unstinting love, care and support throughout Karen's illness. It must have been of considerable comfort to Karen to know that the children would continue to be loved and cared for by David. WE were fortunate to be visited by David, Karen, Alicia, Sian and Greg in September 2011 shortly before their departure to New Zealand. It amusing to read the tribute made by their neighbour from Meadow Hillock, particularly the story of Greg and the mysterious moving plant pots. \\\\\\\\after our visit we found that a broad-leaved indoor pot plant (deposited with us by our daughter in 1993 shortly before she departed to begin a new life in Germany) had had some of it's leaves 'modified' carefully by a hole punch with which Greg had amused himself. One of those leaves continues to thrive on the plant and we nurture it as a happy memento of the visit. To be predeceased by a daughter or son is the worst nightmare of any parent. Karen and her sister, Elaine had a happy upbringing with Mary and Alec for whom this tragedy is unimaginably awful. The dragonboat racing ladies from Auckland deserve a mention and our thanks for the help and support given to Karen. Last, but by no means least, the magnificent support received from the Royal Air Force of late has exemplified humanity at it's very best. We think particularly of the arrangements made by them for Mary and Elaine to to travel to New Zealand to be with Karen as she passed away and for the return of the entire family.
